The Weissenhof-Siedlung housing estate was designed for the 1927 Werkbund exhibition “Die Wohnung” by 17 architects, the object of the exhibition was to present concepts for New Living from the perspective of economy, functionality, construction, technical fittings, and furnishings.

Many of Le Corbusier’s Five Points on Architecture can be observed in this project. The advance of technology and new use of material allow steel pilotis hold up the upper portion of the building. The horizontal strip window which formed by standardizing window frame runs along the main facade of the building. Despite the fact that the modular design is considered to be pragmatic, some critics regard this building as engineer’s architecture as it is not really appropriate for the site environment.
