“Architecture is more than creating a place to live,” said the Dutch architect, Piet Blom, “you create a society.” As an architect born in 1934, he had experienced lots of architectural and artistic movements during 19^th century though surprisingly, his houses consisted a collection of “warm and light” buildings instead of distinctive cold and so-called stern style ones from post-war modernism. In his Cube House, light yellow is daringly used as the surface color of this collection of buildings and these oblique boxes convey a strong sense of emotional punch to the dwellers – that is, make us have a kind of illusion as if the floors of the houses are oblique, too. The holes over our heads are the frames of our eyes, where we look at the sky, feeling of how we construct ourselves into this huge organism, which is a way to relate us to the space. Cube Houses are connected organically, forming and serving like a community or society, with several large public spaces and a library constructed inside, which is fully justified with Blom’s statement.
